Knudde #1: how do I stay in shape?

Every two weeks Knudde the polar bear is all set to answer all of your difficult questions about life and football. Knudde can be reached on knudde@vvdrienerlo.nl! Today he will be answering the first submitted question.

Dear Knudde,

What a nice idea of yours to be so committed in this time of crisis. I think you help all the Drienerlo’ers these days by giving your fantastic advice.  I sit with my hands in the hair. Yesterday, with great regret, I stepped on the scales. The numbers on the scales flew up in seconds and they don’t lie about it, I have lost my glorious body. Somewhere it is logical, because I drink a lot of liquid gold but I never kick some ball anymore. So my urgent question to you, how do I stay fit in these times?

Love, a too fat Drienerlo’er

Thank you for your question fat Drienerlo'er!

Now that the football season has stopped, we are not training and that we have to miss the abrasions of the artificial grass, it starts itching anyway. All in isolation and preferably not outside. We are also prohibited from gyms and swimming pools. And what do we do with the nice weather? Being outside with a beer, chatting with the people we can still see, about the times when we were still on the field together. Which we of course closed with a pitcher of beer to comfort the loss or celebrate the win. After all, we remain students and they always finish the third half.

To get back to your question on how to stay fit, here is some of my wise advice. You can, of course, follow a live stream workout of your favourite influencer or go outside for a run. Of course, you can play with a roll of toilet paper. Or you can play keepie uppie in the living room, that’s what the pros are doing now. If you don't have them, you have a good reason to get on the bike to get them. If you are lucky, the shelves are almost empty. You can wrestle for the last pack off rolls. Immediately had your exercise for the day.

Maybe we should just let it be. Rest and recover. All the sore knees and stretched ankles are finally resting. Your body may be happy with it, no bouncing and hassle. So that means sitting in the sun now, taking a bottle of beer and chatting about times gone by. And September, September comes later. Then we try again to run after the ball together.

The trainer has time enough to come up with a gruelling endurance training so that everyone is ready again after 3 weeks.
